Black Kids: the name on everyone's lips for a while (since the release of last year's free Wizard Of Ahhhs demo EP) and who could have predicted how virtually overnight, this Florida quintet have become blog royalty. Bernard Butler is on board for the ride this time as producer, slicking-up the scratchy self-recorded effort of I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance, for their first "official single", if you will.
Butler has scrapped the reverb-heavy rawer angle, pushing the dualling swirling keyboards and Reggie Youngblood's quaky-shaky post-Robert Smith vocals to the forefront. It's still a brilliant splash of colourful 80s synthy indie-pop, drums reminiscent of the Stone Roses, cheerleader chants ("1..2..3!") and it's nice to hear the bass heavy in the mix for a change. This is just too good to pass on, it would be impossible for anyone to hear this song and not fall in love instantly.
