Kingbastard - [ L i t t l e R e d ] B o o k
[Ambidextrous Records]

Ambidextrous are wasting little time in flooding the market with their wares. Not that this is a bad thing, especially if they keep coming out with these adroit releases. It is the turn of Kingbastard this time round, the Rob Da Bank endorsed producer follows up 2007's '[L o s t A t S e a]' with his latest collection of quirky electronic sounds.

There's an element of mischief to Kingbastard's style, an off-the-cuff almost arbitrary nature. There's plenty of structure, though, opener '[F i s h b o a t n c o]' is a fast and furious blend of sinister synths and whiplashing beats along the lines of U-Ziq. '[O n c e A]' incorporates a soulful vocal sample, think Moby's 'Play' album, and melds it to a series of breakneck beats -- It works a treat. While '[G h o s t w r i t e r's ]' cartoonish melody adds a tad of colour to this Ep.

Overall, it is another quick-fix solution from Kingbastard, a collection of disparate sounds, loopy samples and rapid beats all taken from his workshop and sanded down into his own brand of electronica. As with all Ambidextrous releases, it is a 'pay whatever the hell you feel like paying' (http://www.ambidextrousrecords.com/) policy. For fans of electronica, the phrase 'never look a gift horse in the mouth' applies here.
