Elle Milano - Meanwhile In Hollywood
[Brighton Electric]

Brighton has already given us The Kooks (unfortunately) and Blood Red Shoes (yay), now joining the city's list of potential indie stardom is Elle Milano. A few EPs have flown past with little notice, but these three eager rapscallions soon release their first album Acres Of Dead Space Cadets.

As with the album, Meanwhile In Hollywood was self-produced and it keeps the band in a safe place - no risk of sounding over the top stadium rock here. No matter how deceiving their foreign name is, Elle Milano have a strong British personality and they just keep to what is important: big tunes and masses of seductive melody. For a three-piece, they sound much bolder and thicker than you'd imagine, as strings fill-out the fourth role - sliding over angular riffage, bass and drums. But, you just can't help feel that the passion of vocalist Adam Crisp is lost somewhere through the muffled microphones.

Elle Milano make inoffensive, instant hit music that with the right push, could easily tap into the fanbase of established names like Embrace, Hard-Fi and Muse. But will a label as small as Brighton Electric be able to get them that far? Doubtful.
