After the post-rock ruminations of Highlanders Shutter, it takes Her Name Is Calla no time whatsoever to add a touch of class to proceedings. Finally, a band worth believing in!
The musicianship matches the ambition of tracks like the epic “Condor” and in frontman, Tom Morris, they have a star in the making. That voice! It really is as emotive and powerful as those early singles suggested. With a range that can move from quivering falsetto to throaty roar in a matter of seconds, squint your eyes towards the stage and you’d swear it is actually Thom Yorke.
With the performance becoming more ritualistic with every passing minute a spell-binding “Moment of Clarity” wins over any remaining doubters, sending wave after wave of euphoric sound over the audience. Many in attendance are visibly stunned as they are aware they have just witnessed something special.
