The Shoes - Knock Out
[50 Bones]

The Shoes could be massive for two simple reasons; they're French (very hip and very now) and they make the kind of bohemoth-electro-rock that is erm, very hip and very now. Knock Out (cue weak pun of the month award) hijacks parts of the classic Rocky theme tune Eye Of The Tiger and smothers it in intense drums, sweaty bass and bar-room-brawl gang chants.

Lyrically this is daft as it comes and doesn't take itself seriously, with random shouting of boxing-related words and ring-side themes; "Hollyfield, broken, nose, sparring, punch, uppercut". But then music with a sole purpose to set the dance floor alight, won't have many sitting down and analysing every word to come from the duo.

If the Knock Out had been released 8 years ago, it would be raved about as a genius bootleg mash-up akin to Richard X etc. But for now, just take the track for what it is - goofy, witty, idiotic fun that proves not all music has to be so serious.
