Cazals - Life Is Boring
[Kitsune]

When the Kitsune label slings out another slab of vinyl in your direction, you just know it's going to be something great, if not mind-blowing. Life Is Boring by Cazals may not fall into the latter category, but it shouldn't be instantly tagged with the boringness the title hints at.

There is however an air of monotony lingering thoughout, from the minimal bass and repetitious drums, only occasionally joined by guitars, while the singer (who by the way, is so husky sounding, you keep clearing your own throat while listening) drones on, making the first half of the track pretty forgetful.

Then bizarrely, the pace changes to a faster tempo and saves the remainder of the song. Everything flips suddenly into some quasi-American pop-punk and the moody Cazals are no more; they get jerky, they get energetic and they show a side far more entertaining than the stroppy first few minutes. Life Is Boring they may say, but Cazals are not so dull (well, when they want to be).
