MGMT - Time To Pretend
[BMG]

Never has a lead single been so misleading for its related (disappointing) album, as Time To Pretend by New York duo MGMT. It has everything you could want in a single and more; spaced-out pop with a psychedelic twist, nostalgic 70s synths & Moogs, hedonistic lyrics about living fast, dying young and not getting a 9-5 office job. Even the tripped-out, kaleidoscopic video (complete with fight scenes against giant crabs and riding oversized-kittens) is amazing.

But in this case, the words "one hit wonder" have never sounded so apt. For all the great plus points this single achieves, the album Oracular Spectacular isn't worth the plastic (or binary code if you're a download fan) it's pressed on. Make this a must-have purchase though, as it won't be leaving the stereo anytime soon that's for sure.
