Two years after your debut album, just how do you make it known that you are back with a sequel and this time, really mean business? Well if you're Tennessee rockers Be Your Own Pet you release not just one blast of a single, but you drop four in a two week period. This week we get Food Fight! and Super Soaked - Black Hole and The Kelly Affair are to follow in seven days and all 7" records feature a different photo of the band, if that sort of collectible thing floats your boat.
These guys (and leading girl) love having fun in the studio and it shows. Food Fight!, although lasting just over a minute, its juvenile lyrics of "Lunch time is just not fair! Hot dog mustard in your hair. Sucks for the janitor...FIGHT ON!", are a breath of fresh in the pre-meditated, sterile pop-punk of their peers. It isn't intelligent and far, far away from being anything of a genius recording, but come on - let your hair down and kick-back to the hedonistic, adolescent blast of fun.
Super Soaked is a similar mess of raucousness, moulding shades of snotty garage rock and lo-fi punk. It isnt as instant as its sister release, but is still likely to have you bouncing around the room like an idiot. Welcome back kids, you are much needed around these parts!
