Mark Ronson - Just
[Columbia]

Just how does Mark Ronson get away with it? We know he's an "in demand, top name producer" and all that, but how does he convince the powers that be (in this case Radiohead), that covering one of their most popular songs would be A) a good idea and B) would offer something new and different to the original.

Thom Yorke surely isn't *that* desperate for the money, yet the 'head have given the all-clear for Allen and Winehouse's best mate to give a newer touch on their classic pop single from The Bends album. This recording actually pre-dates any of the recent hits you'll have heard in the past 12 months (Valerie and Oh My God etc), as it was created two years ago (so basically this is to blame for all this shit covers that have subsequently followed).

Ronson must be laughing all the way to the bank on this one. It's a familiar tune so listeners instantly catch on to it, there will be a few Radiohead fans who purchase it to hear the new interpretation and well, all he's really done is switched the vocals (in this case Alex Greenwald sings) and done the usual trick of a pop-hop drum loop, added some trumpets and given it a really tame jazz-pop feel that will appeal to the Amy Winehouse fanbase.

I don't know what is more shocking; the fact Radiohead let this happen, or that music this crap has such funding behind it when there are many artists out there actually writing their *own* material.
