Foals - Cassius
[Transgressive]

Love them or hate them, you can't deny Foals are the cause of some serious debate material lately, in fact there is probably no new-ish band getting as much hype as these guys are, as we await the release of debut album Antidotes.

Cassius is the last single before said LP drops and it is such a safe song to choose to say the least; it has all the hallmarks of previous Foals singles and all the qualities of a quick hit - a demanding uptempo rhythm, shrieking vocals, a flirtation with saxophones and a hint of experimentation to please the chin-strokers who still insist the band are math-rock,

While it may be a great song on its own, the band are rather dangerously, starting to come across as a one-trick pony when Antidotes is quite the opposite - a real slow-burning grower that takes time to appreciate and improves after each listen. But there is no doubting that along with These New Puritans, 2008 surely belongs to Foals.
