Something strange has happened to The Kills. Gone are the days of scratchy, riff-heavy blues-recorded basement rock and instead, we find the band dishing up a cocktail of electro-tinged disco-strut on Midnight Boom's second single, Cheap And Cheerful.
Hand claps pop and clash over a snappy-bass that would rival New Young Pony Club or CSS in the dance-side of indie. Even the pop-art video showcases the band's dayglo, explosive paint-splattered new direction, where shock.horror.gasp, the duo of VV and Hotel (OK, now those names are just plain silly - Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince according to their birth certificates) seem relatively happy.
It's great to see the two-piece are not walking on the same ground as their last two albums.
