Cadence Weapon - In Search Of The Youth Crew
[Big Dada]

After the stuttered-electro of first album Breaking Kayfabe, who would have thought young Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon (Rollie Pemberton) would have come up with a club-hop crossover on the first single from 2nd album Afterparty Babies.

Now usually the thought of a 4/4 dance beat and stammered keys / synths, met with a rap vocal would have most running for the hills (saying that, it more than worked for Kanye West on the Daft Punk-embracing Stronger), but In Search Of The Youth Group really, truly works and boy does it leave you thirsty for more.

Whereas other artists have flirted with electronics and hip-hop with moody, atmospheric results (Shadow Huntaz quickly spring to mind), here, Pemberton has made a sound so exhilerating, fresh, exciting, upbeat - I could go on, so strong is the track.

Suddenly the underground looks selfish in keeping the guy secret for much longer, as tracks like this deserve to be acknowledged by a much, much wider audience.
