Where did these guys creep up from? Discovered by Ninja Tune-offshoot Counter Records, these two Baltimore-based nutters make loud, unashamed freak-punk, where humour, noise, crap electronic hardware and distortion all walk hand-in-hand.
The Death Set are a band who have had too many Red Bulls and their high-energy, fuck-shit-up attitude to music is too infectious for its own good. On paper it sounds crap and if truth be told, the band are amateurs beyond belief - but there is something so addictive about cheap guitar riffs and nasty console blips, coupled with screaming high-pitched vocals and drum machines that sound like they are on their last legs.
The group fall into a similar category as Australia's The Bumblebeez and Marquis Cha Cha's Tiger Force, but so far-apart are releases by these bands, that any chance of a leading "scene" to batter "new-rave" out of the way are unlikely to happen. Shame. The album Worldwide is out in April, here's betting the results will make your head spin like you've had far too many.
