“(A) single polyphonic chord generated by Electro Harmonix HDG guitar synthesizer. Manipulated and processed using Guyatone VT3 Vintage Tremolo, Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man delay, Bass DD-6 delay and Alesis Nanoverb reverb” reads the cover of the latest installation from Low Point.
A less scientific press release for this near 18 minute piece should say – “grand, lulling guitar synth experimentation notable for the warmth generated by the huge cathedral-esque tone, performed by easily one of Britain’s most prolific ambient musicians”.
Gareth Hardwick builds a steady flow of robust sound, barely fluctuating from a booming single note. Controlling its frequency by deforming and manipulating the reverb, his guitar synth sound is almost unrecognizable from what we have come to expect from the six-string instrument.
Not the speculated Strategy Vinyl Ep release, discussed by Hardwick in the recent Angry Ape interview, but a nice little surprise nonetheless from this great little imprint.
