Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor
[EMI]

Hot Chip are in a very awkward position when it comes to their future singles. Look at it from their point of view; so popular, so danceable and so instantaneous was their anthem Over and Over, that anything released post their album The Warning, will be met with difficulty in living up to the same success.

So difficult in fact, that you can almost feel the nervous tension behind the sweaty, dance-floor chorus of Ready For The Floor - the band's returning single and first from third album Made In The Dark. While not instantly as catchy as their biggest hit, with repeated listens the track is equally as infectious, if not better that than any single they've released before.

There's a bouncy, quasi-electro synth and beat driving through the background, quite like dropping a Gameboy in the toilet so it plays back a spastic, gamecore soundtrack.

But Hot Chip have a weird quality about them that is impossible to pin-point. The singer can't sing, the corny retro electronics are hardly of the new pioneering variety, yet they remain totally alone and totally different from any other band around at the moment. And that's why they are just so damn good.

Their first album Coming On Strong sadly slipped under the radar, The Warning was a great record, but just maybe album number 3, Made In The Dark, will be the band's greatest moment yet. Check out the song yourself, as you can watch the video here.
