These kids must have grown-up hanging around in the same tough neighbourhood as Archie Bronson Outfit and offshoot The Pyramids, as Wolf People push a mesh of dirty, bluesy-garage, albeit with a much, much heavier psych influence and trippy, 60's out-there weirdness.
Last time around the band gave us the quite awesome October Fires single (review link) and returning again to Battered Ornaments (Doug Shipton's label - he of the Finders Keepers collective), they conjure up two more tracks of frazzled guitars fed through scuzzy, busted amps, flutes, heavy beats and ethereal vocals. But what really impresses, is the lovely and warm organic recording that is a thousand miles away from the cold, soulless production we're subjected to in modern times and it gives the band a timeless classic sound.
Fans of Beefheart, 60's psych, acidic-tinged pop and lost garage nuggets will be delighted with this single. It's bizarre - this record will surface in a second hand music shop 30 years down the line and confuse the hell out of the lucky purchaser, as it couldn't be further from the Bloc Party's and Klaxons of 2007's popular music.
Seek now, before you're shelling out serious cash on eBay in the coming months.
