Blood Red Shoes - I Wish I Was Someone Better
[V2]

It's amazing how Blood Red Shoes have come on so much in terms of songwriting and the production side of things on their most recent material (the latter no doubt thanks to signing with V2 earlier in the year).

From those sketchy early 7"s (that are now demanding prices to match your mortgage), the pair have transformed from a trashy, noise-riddled DIY garage duo destined to remain on low-key indie labels, into a slicker pop-punk machine who could make a serious dent in the charts with the right kind of promotion.

Drummer Steve is on lead vocals this time, hopefully dropping those Riot Grrrl tags that keep flying around at any mention of the band (alongside those constant, unfounded White Stripes comparisons). Laura-Mary's guitar riffage is immensely huge and the rapid percussive beats of Steve adds a dancey element, for a place where rock, pop, punk and even grunge meet.

I Wish I Was Some Better the band say; if only they knew how great they truly were. For now, Blood Red Shoes keep going from strength to strength and their forthcoming debut album is going to cause some serious ripples in 2008.
