Dungen - Tio Bitar
[Subliminal Sounds]

Tio Bitar is a barrage of Swedish psychedelica, swelling gloriously with swirling autumnal tones and the drawling bark of Swedish-sung lyrics, guitar licks poured out like syrup to dance wildly in a blushing forest of thick melodic sounds.

Dungen are harking back to a lost musical genre, a time often talked about but not often remembered. Here, on Dungen's fourth full length album, psychedelica never felt so starkly brand new, the cobwebs are blown away and a new sub-species has evolved.

Stuck in the urban sprawl of Sheffield with the spring rain soaking the concrete streets there's nothing to connect me to the aural kaleidoscope pulsing through my headphones. The glorious twisting and weaving of heavy guitars turns my city psyche multi-coloured, I can almost feel the last light of the Scandinavian summertime hard on my back.

Tio Bitar truly deserves to be called awesome, epitomising times when summer is waning and the leaves are turning, times full of campfires and tee-pees and electric guitars melted into a reverberating fuzzy focus.
