Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm
[Domino]

There isn't any large band right now that has the kind of pressure to deliver a decent follow-up album than Arctic Monkeys. Just one year after their insanely successful debut, countless sold out tours and a pair of huge forthcoming outdoor shows scheduled for Summer, the Sheffield youngsters are ready to drop another bombshell in the form of second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Brianstorm (and that isn't a typo) is the first taste of things to come and the band are on typically brilliant form, offering one of their best and most raw tracks laid down on tape. Arctic Monkeys have discussed the influence of bands like Queens Of The Stone Age during the recording sessions and these heavyweight rockers have certainly had an impact - the titan guitars are huge and urgent, plus the pummeling drums beat the crap out of your speakers.

Vocalist Alex Turner is too in fine form, throwing in a classic dig at a certain elitist group of indie fans; "Cause we can't take our eyes off the t-shirt and ties combination...Well see you later, innovator."

Arctic Monkeys aren't breaking new ground with Brianstorm, but it's nice to hear them moving away from a sound that made them so many fans and so much publicity. The new heavier, harder and rockier version already eclipses the debut album and if this single is anything to go by, Favourite Worst Nightmare is going to be brilliant.
