When a band is compared to Arcade Fire and Flaming Lips in the first stages of their career, it's a hard act to follow with such weighty expectations placed upon their shoulders.
Amazingly, this hasn't phased The Kissaway Trail and true enough, their stunning new single Smother + Evil = Hurt is like a poppier fusion of the two bohemian names already mentioned.
An intro of marching band drums comes across a bit like Doves before the Danish group venture into a dream-pop display of wobbly off-key vocals like Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue and an ambience lifted straight from the classic Deserter's Songs.
There's also a slight 80s Cocteau Twins synth running through that Danish bands seem to be pushing in a heavy way lately, like Manual and the forthcoming album by new-gazers Rumskib.
The Kissaway Trail won't win any prizes for originality, but their dreamy tracks of sonic loveliness and epic-scale compositions will hardly go un-noticed when the band drop their debut album later this month.
