Brand New - Jesus Christ
[Interscope]

These Jesse Lacey fronted New Yorkers Brand New, choose to get all sombre and reflective on us, as he slows his vocals down and instills an echoing eeriness that runs across the slow chiming guitars and rubbing percussion. A lonely mood is conveyed with heart-wrenching belief, espousing proud emo lyrics;

“Do you believe you’re missing out, everything good is happening somewhere-else? With nobody in your bed, the night’s hard to get through.”

An earnestness and sombre vocal drag is produced to match the effect Lifehouse songs have. For all the searching and sorrowfulness displayed here, Brand New still do not appear to be wallowing and that is to their credit. It is not easy to do avoid that trap in a song of this nature, especially when you’re a band of the emo ilk.
