This band should have it good for the following reasons - 1) they're an all female band. Great, they're bound to turn some heads. 2) They play guitar rock music. Awesome, an all female rock band, something that is highly unrepresented in the music scene. 3) From appearances it seems like they have more balls than the drain pipe jean wearing goons that dominate many a front page these days.
Thing is though, this album fails to ignite any sort of inspiration in me, which is sad, because The Hedrons are one of those bands that I really want to like, but can't. However hard I try though, I just can't bring myself to rant and rave about this "Great new all-female rock band who are here to blow away our dusty prejudices about women in the rock scene".
There's just nothing on this album that stands out, no defining feature, nothing different. Don't get me wrong, they're good songs, catchy choruses and all that. But that's just it. Nothing more and nothing less.
The first track, Heatseeker stretches just long enough to keep you listening and thinking this could be an awesome album, but as the tracks skipped along I found myself doing other things, checking my emails, making a cup of tea and before I knew it track 12 was playing and it was all over.
Apparently then it makes great background music, but what band wants to be the soundtrack to the more worthwhile things you could be doing other than listening to their album?! I really hope that future releases from The Hedrons proves me wrong, if anything to save another all - girl rock band from not being taken seriously.
