If The Go! Team had discovered weird and wonderful, fuzzy indie pop instead of hip hop and cheerleader chants, then there's a good chance We Throw Parties, We Throw Knives could have appeared on the band's acclaimed Thunder, Lightning, Strike album.
You see, Los Campesinos! and the previously mentioned name, both share the same schoolyard bubblegum pop aesthetic that is impossible to resist and will have even the most stubborn of us moving their feet.
We Throw Knives, You Throw Knives is the kind of track The Research could and should have been making, with an infectious mix of cheap keyboards, xylophones, twee male / female harmonies and a charming, amateur home-recorded sound.
The lyrics too are just as playful and daft as the music, with lines like "Team Campesinos trick or treating on your driveway in the middle of August; one of us dressed like a zombie, one of us dressed like a pirate, one of us dressed like a ninja and four of us dressed like schoolgirls."
B-side Don't Tell Me To Do The Math(s) isn't as sugary sweet, even if the sickly intro of violins, xylophones and what could be a plucked harp is a little deceiving. Los Campesinos soon launch into their jerky, fun-filled mix of soft indecipherable vocals and bouncing riffs that sound great now, but will sound amazing during the hot Summer months.
I think we've just found the band to watch for 2007.
