Future Of The Left are a "supergroup" of sorts, comprising of band members from both Mclusky and Jarcrew. Although they came together in 2005 and even toured under various pseudonyms, only now do we get to hear the first fruits of their forthcoming debut album Future Of Monmouth.
To say the single is excellent is an understatement. The fact that the songs included here have been floating around the net in one form or other for quiet some time now, yet still sound as fierce as ever, goes to show the strength and quality behind this collective.
At only 1.52 minutes in length, Fingers Become Thumbs leaves you begging for more. A thumping beat and some fuzzy bass start things off, before Andy Falkous' jaunty, semi-comedy vocals kick in alongside some screechy guitar solo.
But it's Lord Hates A Coward where the band really blow you away. This is a more angrier Future Of The Left and a band not to be messed with; the scuzzy guitars are raw, the gruelling bass drives the track like a steak through the heart and amongst the scream of Falkous, is a menacing chorus of "violence solves everything".
Debut singles are rarely this great or have as much impact. Future Of The Left are likely to be one of the best bands for 2007.
