Steeljaguar Rocket sinks its teeth aggressively into wide open drones, of the sort that remove you from self-consciousness, transporting you into the midst of a plasma storm of sound.
The peaks are sonic breakdowns of fused sound, of ebbing guitars, frantic sleigh bells and maracas that devolve and evolve, a subsistent progression decorated by handfuls of free jazz within thickets of monotones and cacaphonic percussion.
Structurally it follows no rules, with the opening track running for a mighty thirty minutes while the others fade out after eight. Epic opener, title track Steeljaguar Rocket is a symphonic movement of sound, evoking images of Carter and Horton crouched over their tools, haloed in sparks of luminosity, engrossed in the drawing out of wondrous sounds.
The pairing of Charalambides Tom Carter and Robert Horton creates an intense dynamic of improvised sound, a collective ear for impulsive eruptions of clattering cymbals or scattered sax is balanced by the intuition for heavy oozing drones, that slowly expand and contract amorphously.
