Paul Hartnoll - Patchwork Guilt
[Kids]

The name Paul Hartnoll has appeared on many a fine and influential record as one half of Orbital (alongside brother Phil), but now he's getting ready to embark on a solo career of his very own. This two-track 12" is the first taster for Hartnoll's forthcoming first album.

Early comments have described Paul's album as "a superb collision of filmic soundscapes, punk, rave, techno and a host of guest performers" and while a-side Patchwork Guilt doesn't really match the diverse and over-crowded hybrid suggested, the results are still nothing short of spectacular.

Patchwork Guilt begins stripped and basic, keeping to the bare essentials of minimal bleeps and stretching processed strings, that in all honesty, could be almost any Toytronic record from the past four years. After the calm before the storm style laid-back electronica, things then really hot up via detailed drum arrangements and speaker-rattling bass that turn the track into a route heading straight to a dancefloor.

As a standalone single Patchwork Guilt is a pleasing piece of work and the album is looking increasingly desirable. However, the idea of vocal collaborations and flirtations with various genres to come, does somewhat eclipse the overall impact of the track being a new release from one half of Orbital.
