The Horrors - Count In Fives
[Loog]

If you're even remotely wised up about current music trends, chances are you'll already be familiar with The Horrors from their huge exposure, even if you have yet to actually hear a single track by the band.

This five piece are being touted as the next big thing and after a few singles, are already being praised beyond belief both in the UK and US by the media. The cynic in me questions as to whether a band should be so heavily hyped before even releasing one album, but I can see a certain charm with these spook-rockers.

Count In Fives is led by a rib-shaking bassline as the backbone, a gruelling 60s garage organ riff and the possessed vocals of frontman Faris Badwan, who strikes a certain fear in the listener with lines like "irrespective of the subject, I will make it apply. No matter what the object I will count in fives, decide on a location and I will stand inside", followed by the threatening promise of "I will CUT you in HALF".

The Horrors wouldn't score highly on the chart of originality, but they do write some killer, exciting tunes and I'll be damned if there's a more infectious single out this month.
