I couldn't wait to get my ears around this new single from The Hedrons, as August's Be My Friend just happens to be one of my favourite records of the year.
I Need You is like a lost cousin to their debut, sharing those same impulsive, adrenalinised riffs and couldn't give a sh*t hipness in the vocals of Tippi. There's something in the guitars that remind me of early Oasis, albeit with a vocalist who oozes more attitude than any punk icon and done with more cool than you or I could ever pull off.
It's obvious The Hedrons are also big fans of bands like Sonic Youth or The Stooges. Yeh, I know most rock bands these days are, except there's nothing calculated or fake about their music unlike a lot of their peers.
I'm not usually one to get hyped up by a band so early in their career, but their two singles so far combined with their stage performances, have shown so much promise that I can't see them ever writing a duff tune. Bring on the album!
