With a name like Born Ruffians, Piecing It Together was never going to be a slice of bland, polished radio-friendly indie. We are instead treated to a frantic, but brilliant mix of prog and jerky new-wave.
If you're already thinking the track is another throwaway 2 minute single of art-rock then forget it. Piecing It Together does contain all the token and vital parts of a new-wave track; the edgy vocalist, agitated guitars, angular bass and sudden key changes, but then it veers off into prog territory.
Imagine the infectious qualities of Maximo Park covering 80's cult legends Artery and you're halfway to understanding how great this debut single is.
