Mekon - Boy Bitten / Blood On The Moon (Feat. Bobby Gillespie & Alan Vega)
[PIAS]

Mekon has lined-up some great names for this new double a-side single, in the run up to his third album Something Came Up. Boy Bitten and Blood On The Moon are two tracks that seemingly bridge the gap between big beat, punk and rock.

First song Boy Bitten includes newcomer Rita Brown on vocal duties and in parts could well be something from Miss Kittin's back catalogue. The whole thing has a strong German synth-punk feel with kitschy drum machines, keyboards and nods to both Peaches and Annie in the process.

The Blood On The Moon track is worth the single costs alone as Mekon enlists legendary Suicide vocalist Alan Vega and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream on vocals. The song sounds like a cross between Chemical Brothers, David Holmes and Death In Vegas on their Contino Sessions / Scorpio Rising albums, as Mekon lays on industrial sized grinding synthesizers and massive beats.

Gillespie spits out a vicious politicalised vocal that hasn't been heard since the agressive days of XTRMNTR, as he shoots out a line of "Capitalism is cheap labour!". This really is an ace single and the album could be an absolute stormer, so be sure to invest in this release.
