d_rradio - Dear John / Pick Me Up
[Distraction]

Number 2 in a vinyl series for d_rradio, sees the trio dedicate a song to the late John Peel (who once described the band as "lugubrious"). Offering two tracks of conflicting electronic music, side A is a dark and industrial fuzzy track, which contrasts sharply with the livelier and colourful b-side.

The first part of Dear John is minimal and repetitive, barely changing course it instead relies on a build-up of rich textures and warm layers. Even with the introduction of drums, the track remains firmly awash with machine hum and distorted fuzz, that coats the crunchy loops of ricochet beats.

Pick Me Up sees the threesome drop their corrupted data compositions to pick up the pace with a sunny and colourful production. Synths are cute and playful, the melodies are gorgeous and as usual with d_rradio, they are capable or creating interesting and entertaing electronica in a field of their own.

A lovely 7" by a great band, d_rradio can do no wrong. Mr Peel would have been proud.
