Professors of white noise and the blank space, Battles use them to allow the music to breathe. On EP B you can feel your ears itching and searching as they try to grasp whether it is the sound coming out of the CD player which is making the hairs of the neck stand to attention. The slow crescendo of the music brings a tingle and the slow cranking reminds one of an old empty house, where all that is left is the memories of sounds and life as it slowly creaks to a stop.
With Battles there is no stop and instead the music winds upwards, the beat quickening and the noise now discernable allows the ears a rest. The music floats into the ear canal, entering the bloodstream and causing it's merry havoc. Each play, brings new joys as intricacies of the record becomes apparent, in the days of disposable pop, it is a joy to behold.
Coming as two CDs, providing just over an hour of music, EP C contains classics such as IPT-2 and B + T. The enjoyable Tras is the most easily identifiable guitar band piece on the EP and combines the strumming of guitars and a constant drumming with adventures into the world or electronica. It's not hard to see why the likes of Prefuse 73 champion a band such as this.
