Belong - October Language
[Carpark Records]

Boundless amorphous landscapes open up under the cavernous avant rock of Belong's debut, October Language. Released by Carpark records one might be misled as to the expected tone of this release, where no trace of Kid 606 break beats can be found as the ambience speaks more of Keith Fullerton Whitman.

Belong originate from New Orleans, and as to be expected, an intense tragedy pervades October Language. It feels seeped in an inescapable clotting of grief and decay, where fuzzed out drones reach for sweeping peaks under vast layers of pulsating sound. Beat and melody is exchanged for poignancy, before being taken over by cyclic subterranean monotones, pasted heavily on top of one another, imposing unavoidably upon your person.

The title track descends into more watery territory, with lighter peaks and a more ethereal atmosphere to the sounds. Ominous basslines distort the dusty murmurs and exude an energy to send shivers up your spine. Sonic glitches coagulate with diffused sound in I'm Too Sleepy... Shall We Swim? A throb of bass towers over Who Told You This Room Exists?, whilst feedback and static transmit over Remove The Inside.

Belong make music which is guaranteed to fill a room, which utterly dominates any space with its gentle purrs, laid over with ambient electronic murmurs and affects even the most casual listener.
