Panda Bear - I'm Not / Comfy In Nautica
[UUAR]

After 2004's solo album Young Prayer, Animal Collective founder Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) releases this two track single, which is his first recorded material since he moved to Lisbon from New York.

I'm Not and Comfy In Nautica is released by UUAR, the label run by friend and AC producer Rusty Santos, who Lennox has also performed live with as the duo Together.

Lennox is in particularly fine form, laying down the similar droney dance rhythms his other band Jane create. Only in a positive and more uplifting fashion. I'm Not is based around Bear's trademark swashing vocals, distant drum patters and psychedelic drones, in a dreamy, ethereal-ambient track.

Comfy In Nautica recaps Lennox love of the Beach Boys, like a distant cousin of AC b-side Baby Day, sunshine melodies sit atop hand claps and there's a distinctive semi-Gospel feel in the vocals. With this two track gem, Panda Bear proves to be a strong solo artist in his own right. We can only wait with anticipation for the new album.
