Jaed - Gutter Girl
[Self Released]

The latest in what is proving to be a succession of Australian female fronted punk/pop bands, Jaed sight Veruca Salt, L7 and Hole as influences, although their sound is far more mainstream and easier to digest al la The Muffs and The Donnas.

Despite sounding like the soundtrack to an American teen movie, laced with splashes of poppy post riot grrrl, this download only ep was apparently written during singer Vanessa Eve’s time in detox.

Tellingly, a spikey, black humour runs throughout her lyrics, disguised in the gushy, wholesome, upbeat feeling of the tracks. Jaed are bitter and want to get back at the world for wronging them...but their sneering dryness won’t let them take themselves too seriously; "you think we’re junkies but you don’t wash your undies; you’re fucking nuts...you're nothing but a slut."

Debut album, ‘Dirty Days’, to be released in 2006 will prove make or break time for Jaed-keep the tracks cutting and tuneful and they’ll secure a solid fanbase of post riot grrrl pop fans; submerge into a self- indulgent nostalgia trip and they’ll sink into download only insignificance…
