'Rewind', the fourth single to be taken from the Stereophonic's multi platinum selling album 'Language. Sex. Violence. Other?', shows up the lyrically philosophical side to the boys.
'Rewind' sees Kelly Jones' enchantingly husky American drawl accentuated by soft heartbeat drums. Initially, it starts off with a short sequence of repetitive synth soon added to by an effective set acoustic chords. Then progressing into an electric sequence yet managing to remain pretty and melancholic, the lyrics discuss the possible effects of turning back time on today.
B-side 'Hammerhead' sees a similar use of religious imagery with reference to nails ("How many nails?"). Following in suit, the track ploys a repetitive backing in order achieve the emotion effect desired. This time around there is a distinct bass line and furthered focus on the music itself. There are however half the amount of lyrics used in under half the time, but the track is strong enough to pull it off.
Overall this single is pretty much the same as Stereophonics regulars have become used to. This single is nothing out of the ordinary, but proves that comfort music can actually be quite nice sometimes.
