Patrick Wolf's second album Wind In The Wires was met with critical acclaim upon it's arrival at the beginning of 2005. Tristan follows in the footsteps of The Libertine,
Tristan appears to have stemmed from the same art-pop school as frequented by Tom Vek. Almost a cross between Talking Heads, quirky new-wave art-rock and 80s synth pop; it is this quirky hybrid which leaves Patrick Wolf clearly in his only little world.
Wolf's semi-post punk, snarling vocal skips over the loops of shattering hip hop beats, whilst the synthesizers clash with sleazy intentions. But still, the finished article is incredibly approachable and pop-light. The chorus is huge, melodies as fresh and mesmerising as anything else he's produced, and in all, it's a perfect shiny two minute hit.
