Love's A Game finds everyone's favourite chirpy indie band, The Magic Numbers in ballad mode. Following on after the sunshine pop and golden melodies of Love You Like Me, this fellow album track is more subtle and less colourful than their previous smash hit.
The Magic Numers can do the ballad thing well, only it's a tad predictable and overall very boring. Love's A Game is a five minute dreary pop track that loses the cuteness of their uplifting pop anthems. There are still shared boy / girl harmonies and the jangly indie guitars, only when applied with a heavy dose of melancholy, the band lose all the charismatic and infectious qualities which has seen their popularity rise tenfold over the last 12 months.
Not a patch on their last single Love You Like Me.
