This limited edition 12" is a sampler for the new Bloc Party remix album Silent Alarm Remixed, which is also released this week. It features the original album version of Banquet and an edit of the Phones Disco remix.
Banquet as everyone should know by now, is Bloc Party's signature tune - a mixture of Kele Okereke's frantic new-wave vocals, a top notch spiky rhythm section of jumpy bass and pounding drums, angular guitars and an indie-dance approach. This astonishing hybrid that has sent the country Bloc Party crazy is also what makes the Phones Disco mix sound so painfully average in comparison. The Phones track offers little in the way of a thoughtful reworking, simply sticking a 4/4 drum beat over the vocals and adding samples of choppy guitars.
As this track will be readily available on the Silent Alarm Remixed album, it's certainly only a release for completists and die-hard collector's. Purchase Silent Alarm Remixed instead.
