In between completing successful tours alongside Art Brut and The Subways, and winning ‘Best New Band’ at the Meteor Awards, The Chalets have managed to record and mix their album on Setana / Nastypop Records. Whilst the debut is due for release later this year, the first single to be lifted from it is out now.
Feel The Machine is automatically aesthetically pleasing. With a self designed pop art fuelled cover, expectation of 80’s influence rises and this within the initial 5 seconds of the song is definitely fulfilled. The electro beats are energy fuelled, with sugar coated joint vocals smothered on top. Providing a perfect summer soundtrack with this funky bubblegum pop, The Chalets have created a light, enjoyable track, to let loose to and dance like nobody’s watching. Romping and stomping through 3 minutes and 12 seconds, this foot tapping, head shaking and body twisting number will be the essential tune to accompany all summer outgoings.
Lyrics ‘Everybody wants to feel their machine’ provide a questionable message behind the song, but frankly, it does not matter. The lack of clarity in the enigmatic lyrics does not detract from the undeniably catchy pops, clangs and beats of this number. On the flipside, the B-Side ‘Fight Your Kids (Live)’ provides a more melodic and relaxed tune, with dainty xylophones, flowing bass lines and sugar sweet, heartfelt lyrics, The Chalets showcase a diversity that adds to there collective charm and appeal.
