Micah P Hinson - The Baby & The Satellite
[Sketchbook]

The Baby & The Satellite is the first new material from Micah P Hinson since his acclaimed debut album, Micah P Hinson and The Gospel Of Progress. However, the origin of these recordings stems back to 2000 where they made up a sketchy mini album of heartfelt alt country gems.

Since the overwhelming popularity of his debut album, Hinson has revisited these old recordings and reworked them with the aid of friends Brandon and John Mark from The Earlies. The very fact that for a limited edition release, this CD has been manufactured at only 5000 copies, suggests how many people Hinson's music has gone on to touch.

The album begins with the distant samples of flute and children's vocals before a basic drum beat and acoustic guitars kick in, overlaid by Hinson's unique and old-before-his-time vocals. In similar circumstance to the following tracks, it's Micah's voice which becomes the centre point of the LP, with the instuments seeming as an added afterthought.

Like the Gospel Of Progress album, lyrics are as important as the music in which it leads and the same stripped sound that the demo version of The Possibilities had, only emphasises the emotion and heartbreak further. The added bonus of the orignal 30 minute recordings will delight dedicated fans, but shows the raw emotions and patchy environment in which the tracks were born; due to it's lo-fi nature, the general mood and feel is laidback compared to the raucous On My Way track from the debut release.

Baby & The Satellite sees the youngster exploring heartfelt country, blues and poetry told in that nicotine aged voice only Hinson is able to pull off. Essential and spine-tingling.
