Loose Canon - Altercation
[Akoustik Anarkhy Recordings]

'A thrilling amalgam of Joy Division, JAMC and The Fall's styles. With a little bit extra' The Independent (Newspaper), Single of the week.

After such a gracious statement, pressure would have undoubtedly been amounting for the Mancunian four piece, Loose Canon. Monday the 13th saw the release of the bands new single 'Altercation' on 7''. Could they better the success of Piccadilly Record's previous single of the week 'Cruising On The 86'?

Underground Manchester label Akoustik Anarkhy Recordings prove that 'the most up-fer it gonzos this town has thrown up in years' (NME) are their finest export as the new single from Loose Canon is another perverted slam on pop. To be perfectly honest, 'Altercation' did not grab me in the slightest when I first threw it on, but after a few listens, I was the one trying to grab on to it. This melodic track gives off a more intimate feeling then the B - Side track 'This Empire We've Created', and leaves you wanting to hear more.

The almost softer and pop side the band portrays in 'Altercation' aids the message of the song, as singer Noel Vazquez' states, 'sex, love and lust on Back Piccadilly'. B - Side number 'This Empire We've Created', is two minutes of unruly rock, written by guitarist AC and reflects 'paranoid moments in life'. The constant sound of feedback provides a gritty, course and even dirty feeling, which rips into your consciousness.

Both these tracks provide a new single that more then lives up to the praise the critics have previously provided, and will be sure to launch them into stardom and attract hoards of new fans onto the aptly named 'Canonwagon'.
