'Springer' was originally only available in Efterklang's native Denmark on the group's own label Rumraket. Released initially in the criminally low number of 500 copies, the inspiring Leaf Label have given the brilliant EP a full UK issue in the shadow of their acclaimed debut album, 'Tripper'.
Like their first full length LP, the 5 tracks on 'Springer' are a cocktail of subtle and playful electronics, soft distant vocals, live instruments and toylike melody.
Opener 'Kloy Gyn' is present Efterklang in familiar territory, as 'Bright' bares the hallmarks of Sigur Ros on their 'Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do' EP. The similarities between Efterklang and Icelandic wonders Mum meanwhile, can be heard via the cold melancholic piano and crispy beats of 'Antitech'.
The EP isn't as developed as 'Tripper', but this isn't to say the EP lacks impact, emotion or character. The length of the tracks may have improved vastly on the album to provide a more focused and slick sound, however these early traces of the band's potential are as provocative as their finished recent material.
A remarkable release that achieves maximum results from such minimal work. They take a classical approach and outlook to an electronic environment, using contemporary production and digital beats / synths with the more traditional horns, violins and live drums.
