Now here's an interesting album, which can only be described as 48 minutes of pure insanity. Romvelope is the brainchild of Kema Keurthe, who helped co-found the loveable Adaadat label and 'One Course Meal' is his debut album.
Keurthe jumps through so many different styles of music as though he were casually flicking through someone's entire collection of CD's, that it's impossible to pigeonhole or label. Songs jump from glitch to disco to hip hop to electro, all within a single track and there's far too many strange & wonderful noises, that you'll never understand what he's used to create them. Melodic synths bounce off the walls, rapid beats are plentiful and amusing cartoon samples remain entertaining throughout.
The whole idea of randomness and unadulterated fun that Romvelope displays is a breath of fresh air, it's like living inside a computer game that's melted & malfunctioned. Get your head around it and you'll soon realise 'One Course Meal' is something of genius. Absolutely bonkers, but in all the right places.
9/10
