Jim Noir - Eanie Meany
[My Dad Recordings]

Experience may not be by his side, but there's no doubt Jim Noir knows a thing or two about writing a lasting, infectious tune. From the opening quirky lyrics and folk-funk of the title track through to the Beach Boys meets The Beta Band's 'Hot Shots II' of 'I Can't See', Noir's extended influences never fail to excite.

The five tracks of laid-back, pastoral acoustics are met with low-budget electronic splashes, comedy-genius lyricism and a delicious lo-fi production that recall the earlier releases of a certain hatted-Mancunian. But for such an impressive debut, Noir has certainly set himself up to a standard he may be unlikely to follow in the future.

An astonishing close to a great year in music, the one to watch for 2005.
