Dosh - Pure Trash
[Anticon]

This being Dosh's second genre-fusing, dizzying hip-hop album, sees more lo-fi quirkyness and live sampling that recalls on the impressive debut.

But the real strength of 'Pure Trash', lies within the playfulness and eclectic genre-morphing tendencies of the record. The twinkling of xylophones and kids toybox recalls child-hood memories, and the glitchy-beat flipping of 'Building A Strange Child' is the perfect indication of Dosh's vast musical influences. Tracks shape-shift mid-through, from distorted high-energy drum experiments into whispered piano pieces, constantly evolving and threatening to change direction once more.

'I Think I'm Getting Married' is no exception to this method; part Kid 606, part Run DMC's 'Breakin Bells' and a slice of Miles Davis thrown in for the hell of it. Four Tet's 'Pause' epic dominates 'Rock It To The Next Episode', RJD2 and Odd Nosdam on 'Pure Trash', and 'Bye Rhodsy' is this charismatic b-boy mixing the mastery of the finest beat-assassin, with a Rhodes piano and mutilated double-bass.

Pushing certain boundaries and ignoring limitations, 'Pure Trash' combines diversity with an inventiveness that will regain your attention time and time again.
