Manchester's Megarider are a surprising but interesting group. Their debut single 'Voiture' was a short-blast of sex-punk synth-pop: the product of boys with trashy guitars and girls with synthesizers. Latest release 'Stockport Posse', is a sudden departure to their first forray into the pop-world. A combination of reggae rhythms and uptempo disco, that replace the scratchy fx and shouty girl vocals.
Remixes accompany the title track, including the Loser Superhero mix. A squelchy, uber-cool Spektrum in disguise, that combines cheesy keys, Gameboy beats and sped-up vocals to create a bass-driven, glamour slut floor-filler. The agressive, forceful title of the lead track is a faded memory within the Missing Person remix. An ambient, comedown example that touches on Neu! during their more reflective pieces.
As a sequel to 'Voiture', the 'Stockport Posse' EP displays an inspiring urge to progress their musical direction. But who knows what's to be expected from the album, jazz-glitch, folk-grunge or acid-hip hop perhaps?
8/10
