The latest album from Jon Brook's King Of Woolworths marks his most accomplished direction. Now three albums strong, Brooks has honed his library obsession into full-on Radiophonic inspired territory, losing the token 'radio hits' of his previous LP and providing his most coherent project to date.
After a handful of not-so critically acclaimed long-players, 'Rediffusion' adapts the production techniques and sound effects first toyed with on last album 'L'illustration Musicale'. It's only now has this sound developed into something fully-realised, constructing entirely with analogue instruments such as the Moog and tape loops, but introducing his own influence of present day genres, electronica and hip-hop.
With no all-star vocal contributions, the main focus is left upon the drawn-out, dreamy melodies and the sampled beats, xylophones & synths for a remarkably polished and exquisite sounding piece of work, from a man named after a cheap confectionary outlet. Nevertheless, it's the quintessential exotica album of the year, comprising of blissful soundtracks, sci-fi theme tunes and generally spaced-out dream fodder.
