Could this be any more pretentious? Music written for a dance performance entitled 'Split Sides', using self-made instruments (comprising of "8 ballet shoes on a rack and named a Bummsett"). What the hell is going on?
Xylophones, scattered beats and occasional percussion is hardly attention-gaining material, and a lack of melody means the songs become almost indistinguishable. A minimalist use of instrumentation & change in direction also leaves little to be desired.
Whilst the EP remains mainly instrumental, only closer 'Di Do' offers any difference through fractured, sampled vocals & an ending of distorted, feedback. Amateur experimenting and a naive approach to electronics do not make pleasurable listening.
It may work well and have a positive impact as the incidental backing piece it was originally intended for, but taken out of context the tracks become an increasing bore, tuneless and fairly irrelevant. Talk about a fish out of water.
Hopefully this wont encourage new music which takes an "artistic" direction, or before long we'll be over-run by the next generation who "sellotape forks to a lampshade" to create more self-indulgent shite like this. Avoid.
