Bitstream have always been an integral part of the UK electronic scene, from their outstandingly mind-blowing debut to present day they've constantly remained at the forefront of cutting edge and experimental electro.
The 'Radiotherapy' / 'Incubator' EP releases were so well received, it's only fair they're packaged with a clutch of rarer tracks for one of the most surprisingly satisfying albums of the year (until their next album proper arrives this winter).
'One Third Standard Lux' isn't a homage to old electro, they left the cow bells & vintage beats at home it seems. Relevant right now, they instead utilise the studio to their full advantage. Working on unique sounds, beats, minimalism and naturally, retaining a floor-filler direction.
Their experimental moments verge into almost film score magic - a modern day equivalent of the influential Italo-Prog band Goblin, they'd make ideal soundtracks to horror films. 'Madame Resonance' in particular is a haunting, satanic vocal workout of pagan ritual proportions.
Bitstream break the mould in a predictable electronic industry in ways their rivals can only dream of. Warped, but definitely essential electro mayhem.
8/10
